Mr. BaIjit Singh for use by the Oakland Police Department Taxi Detail to Perform
Taxicab Inspections
SUMMARY
Mr. BaIj it Singh, fleet managger of the Yellow Cab Company, has offered to donate a used
Vehicle Lift to the Oakland Police Department (OPD) Taxi Detail. Mr. Singh has also a.-reed to
cover the cost of installing the lift. The lift has a vehicle weight rating of 9,000 pounds and is
adequate for all types of vehicles used by the local taxicab industry.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Bend-Pakg lift and installation expenses total approximately $3,500. Maintenance and repair
costs of the donated lift will be absorbed by the Police Department's baseline budget.
BACKGROUND
The Taxi Detail recently moved from the old Eastmont Substation building, located at 2701 -
73,d Avenue, to a facility at 372 Eighth Avenue. The new location did not have a mechanical
lift, making it difficult for officers to conduct undercarriage inspections of Oakland's taxicabs@
nor does the Police Department have any funds available to purchase this type of equipment.
