RESOLUTION APPOINTING APPOINTING GLORIA COX CROWELL
AS A MEMBER OF THE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION
 
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 11996 C.M.S. creates the Health and Human Services
Commission, whose members are nominated by the Mayor and approved by the City
Council; and
 
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 11996 C.M.S. specifies that members of the Health and
Human Services Commission are to serve three year terms, which are to be staggered so
that some appointments will expire every year, and appointments to fill a term of office are
only to be for the remainder of that term; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, that by the nomination of the Mayor, the following individual is hereby
appointed to the term set forth below:
 
Gloria Cox Crowell, to complete the term beginning October 21, 2003 and ending
October 21, 2006, filling an existing vacancy.

Biographical Sketch
 
Gloria Cox Crowell has more than 10-years experience working in the field of public health and
community engagement with a significant body of her work in the field of HIV/AIDS including
research, education and prevention.  Armed with a comprehensive understanding of Say Area
neighborhoods and the people who live there, Ms. Cox Crowell has gained extensive skills in
community outreach and engagement, program planning and design and contract monitoring
through her work throughout the community.  Ms. Cox Crowell brings to each engagement a set
of skills and experiences that allows her to understand the full range of issues that her clients
must consider.  Ms. Cox Crowell has worked closely with the US Surgeon General's Leadership
Campaign on AIDS in facilitating workshops at three major gospel music conferences in the
year 2001.  In addition, Ms. Crowell has a unique combination of knowledge and experience
that allows her to create relationships and provide program planning and community
engagement services.
 
On a personal level, Ms Crowell is the past co-chair of the African American AIDS Coalition and has
played an integral role in the facilitation of two HIV/AID5 conferences held in the Bay Area. In
addition, she serves as the Co-Chair of the Allen Temple Baptist Church AIDS Ministry and
recently traveled with members of the AIDS Ministry to South Africa and Zimbabwe and
participated in past two International AIDS Conferences in burban South Africa July 2000 and
Barcelona, Spain July, 2002.  Ms. Crowell has partictpated in numerous health faith collabotatiors
